1998 NL Cy Young Race: Glavine & Hoffman

I'm bored so I decided to check out previous records for MVP and Cy Young awards. Does anybody know how the point system works to determine the winner? In '98 Glavine had 11 first place votes while Trevor Hoffman had 13 first place votes. Finishing with 99 and 88 points respectively. Here are the stats for both players.

W-L IP ERA WHIP SO SV
Glavine: 20-6 229 2.47 1.20 157 0

Hoffman: 4-2 73 1.48 0.85 86 53

I'm not trying to take the award away from Glavine, but I'm just wondering what's factored in determining a winner.
