Snake Bite

Dropping 2/3 to the D'backs was not pretty. I'm not even going to bring up Saturday's game. Travis Smith, or Mr. HR Derby should remain in minors. In fact, Brayan Pena was called up after Saturday's game while Smith was sent back down. Friday we blew, Reets blew it. Reitsma isn't a closer, he's a setup guy. He's now blown 3/10 save opportuinities. Yesterday we sqeaked by with three hits off of Juan Cruz?...What, he's starting now. Hudson continues the strong outings and this time he's getting the wins.
How long will Brian McCann be out? He took a shot from Brynes, and is listed day-2-day. My guesstimation will be that he'll miss the San Diego series and at the earliest play in the Cubs series or the latest the return home against the Dodgers.
The Padres are next up for the Bravos. Back in April, Atlanta took 2/3 at the Ted. The probables for the series are:

Mon: Smoltz (3-2 3.47) vs. Peavy (3-4 3.77) 10:05ET Turner South

Tues: Sosa (1-5 5.55) vs. Mike Thompson (1-0 5.40) 10:05ET TBS

Wed: Thomson (1-3 2.76) vs. Chris Young (3-2 3.58) 10:05ET TBS

As usual, late starts for the West Coast games. Have your Mountain Dews handy.

1 Comments:

  • Point A: Before the season we had Villareal, Devine, Reitsma. all possible candidates for closer.

Point B: Reitsma will continue the job until he has the Kolb meltdown and has to be let go. Villareal has fitted in nicely as the setup/middle relief man. (In the minors) Devine has had control and back problems.

Point C: Unless we sacrifice good talent for a "definite" closer we will be in the same boat every year hence forth.

Could Smoltz return to the job? Yes!
    Would he? Nope
